Last night’s season finale of Revenge was called Truth. It gave us two hours filled with twists, turns, surprises, and revelations. It’s been said that the truth will set you free, but as it turns out, sometimes it can also kill you. So let’s dig in.
The episode picked up where we left off — with everyone in the dark. Seems to be a common thread, no? Everyone was trying to figure out what was going on. Emily was the one who finally connected the dots. She realized that when Aiden bankrupted the Graysons, he really activated Carrion. One of the biggest reveals, although not that surprsing, was the fact that Conrad has been a part of The Iniative all along. Actually, The Iniative doesn’t really exist. It’s just a group of savy business men who like to capitalize off of people’s fear. And you know, murder a lot of people. He admits that Helen Crowley came to him shortly after the takedown of Flight 197 and invited him to join the inner circle for their next planned attack. Conrad, not one to want to lose money twice, took the opportunity. Victoria is not happy because she spent the last summer fearing for Daniel’s life and you know, committing murder. In the end this arrangement ultimately spared Daniel his life, but it would end up costing someone else theirs.
With the blackout in full effect, Emily wants to turn to Takeda for answers, but finds his dead body instead. She eventually learns that it was Aiden who killed Takeda, but it’s a piece of information that Aiden gives her while trying to explain why he did it that really catches her attention: Takeda had a fiance who was also aboard the flight. Turns out, Takeda had his own revengeda all along; she was just a soldier in his war. This was even more of a reason why Aiden wanted her to just run away with him. Unfortunately, she’ll never pick love over revenge. Except for that one time she was willing to do it for Jack. A fact that Aiden was unaware of until Nolan let it slip. When Aiden confronts Emily he realizes it’s not because she can’t walk away from it all. It’s that she just doesn’t want to walk away with him. Even so, he gives her a key to a villa they talked about long ago and hopes he’ll join him there someday and walks out of Emily’s life forever. Or at least until he’s detained at the Canadian border by the FBI. Turns out, Aiden is still suspect numero uno.
Jack is still hellbent on exacting his own revenge, so much so that he is walking straight into traps. He trusts Victoria and tells her that he just needs Amanda’s laptop to fully incriminate Conrad. Dumb. He also lets it slip that he’s working with Ashley. Even dumber. Victoria shares this information with Conrad, but she doesn’t know HIS true agenda; she doesn’t know what Conrad is planning. With this new intel, Conrad texts Jack from Ashley’s phone asking to meet at Grayson Global saying she found the laptop. We of course know the laptop is swimming at the bottom of the ocean. Jack is on his way to Grayson Global when both Emily and Nolan realize that this meeting is a trap.
You see when Emily went to Takeda’s and found out he was dead, they also found a photograph of a man. The same man who later showed up pretending to be an IT guy at Grayson Global. In reality, he was an assasin hired by Conrad. His target? Jack. Emily is almost at the building to try and save him when.. BOOM! Grayson Global has exploded.
We later learn that the bomb was originally intended for Daniel, but Conrad encouraged him to send all his employees home. That’s when Daniel learns about his father’s participation in everything. More than ever, Daniel is ready to give up the Grayson name and flee to Paris. But Conrad won’t be having any of that. Daniel owes him his life since he was the one who saved it. True ..but he’s also the reason it was ever in danger in the first place.
With debris still falling, Emily runs INTO the building trying to find Jack. She runs past Conrad who, while standing atop a car, is preaching about being the first responders, and rallying the community to come together. This man will do anything to try and win this campaign. She finally makes it inside amid the smoke and sees the legs of a man moaning in pain. Before she can ID who it was the EMTs drag her out. Fortunately, it wasn’t Jack. Unfortunately, it was Declan. Sorry, Conrad looks like you got the wrong Porter!
But what is Declan doing at Grayson Global? Well, after learning that Charlotte was pregnant in the worst way possible — from Victoria — he went to find her. She told him she was with Daniel, instead of the fact that she was really with Regina who turned out to be crazy in love with Charlotte. But mostly crazy. Regina said Declan stole the bail money and hit her. The worst part? Charlotte actually believed her. Declan and Charlotte have such a healthy relationship, don’t you think? It takes seeing him in the hospital bed for some sense to be knocked into her. He tells her that it’s okay she didn’t believe him (um, no) and how excited he is to be becoming a dad. He also says she’ll make a great mother. Someone should check him for head injuries.
Elsewhere, Emily and Nolan learn that Jack is safe and alive. But, he’s also very angry. He wants to know how Nolan knew about the bomb. Fair question. Nolan gives him some selective truths, and that’s when he learns about Declan. Unfortunately, Jack wants everyone to believe he is dead so he has to stay off the radar. He can’t just walk into a hospital. Cue Emily and her bag of disguises. He wants to know how she got a bag filled with a doctor’s belongings? Oh Jack, if you only knew! She tells him that you learn a few tricks when you’re in juvie. He also asks why she’s doing all this for him. At the moment she tells him she knows about grief, it’s later in the episode when he gets the real answer. He also reinstates her as godmother so baby Carl has someone if something happens to him. Her response: taking care of Carl means not letting anything happen to Jack. Great answer.
After a day filled with explosions and revelations, Daniel finally makes his way to his fiance’s house. He finds a note explaining that she’d meet him at Conrad’s acceptance speech. He also finds Aiden who we learn was released on all charges. The two argue bout the nature of Daniel and Em’s relationship and then the fight turns physical. Side note: When did everyone start calling her Ems? That’s totally only a bestie thing with Nolan — cut it out. Anyway, obviously Daniel doesn’t know that Aiden has like a quadruple black belt and is thrown to the ground. On his way down he knocks over a table and a gun falls out. The last thing we see is Daniel contemplating reaching for it. Does he do it? We don’t know. What we do know is that when he showed up to “support” Conrad, he needed a clean shirt. There’s a problem with the one he’s wearing..there’s some blood on it.
Back at the hospital, Jack finally gets some alone time with his brother who tells him he’s gonna be an uncle. What he strategically leaves out to both his baby mama and his brother, is that his condition is a lot worse than he’s letting on. The truth is, he needs heart surgery. Nolan shows up later offering to buy him the best doctors in the world, but Declan makes a great point..what he needs is time. All the money in the world can’t buy that.
Jack returns later on to find a crying Nolan and a recorded message from Declan. After repeatedly asking to see his brother, Nolan drops one of the biggest bombs in the episode: Declan is dead. After another phenomenal crying scene, Jack’s rage gets even more focused. First they killed his wife, and now his brother has become their latest casualty. It’s officially time for Conrad to pay. On his way he stops at the Graysons to pick up a gun. For billionaires, don’t these people have terrible security? He’s stopped by Victoria, who while at gun point basically asks him to pull the trigger. For a second I thought he might, but he did what I hoped he would. He left her alive so that she can suffer, and suffer she will. With a knock on the door Victoria literally opened the door to her past. Standing before her was her long lost son Patrick. And things just got that much more interesting.
While we don’t know Aiden’s fate, we do know who is now being charged with acts of terrorism: Nolan. While in custody he tries to explain that The Falcon was involved and that the Initiative killed his girlfriend. The problem? The FBI showed Nolan a video of Padma who was Homeland -style telling the tales of her sins. Unfortunately, included in this footage was her blatantly calling Nolan a terrorist. I guess we found out what Trask’s last request of Padma was.
The episode ended with Conrad officially being elected as governor. His moment was interrupted thanks to a mass text sent out with a very important message: Long live David Clarke! With the room becoming slightly chaotic, Emily has to rush even faster to stop Jack before he puts a bullet in Conrad. She spots him in his paperboy hat and hipster glasses and gets there right as he’s about to pull the trigger. She begs him not to do it. She doesn’t want him to ruin his life because of all her decisions. He doesn’t understand how her decisions have anything to do with him. “Jack, look at me.” she says and so he does. You can literally see as the light bulb starts to go off. You watch as he has flashbacks to the girl he used to know. Maybe it’s because of all the emotions, maybe it’s the pressure of the situation, or maybe it’s Emily telling him to trust what he’s known deep down all along, but Jack finally realizes the truth. “I’m Amanda Clarke” she says with tears streaming down her face, and with those three words we’re done for the season.
Some leftovers: Do you think Daniel killed Aiden? What does Patricks’ return mean for Victoria? Were you shocked that they killed off Declan? How will Charlotte react? What does Emily revealing her true identity mean for the future of this show?

I’m going to have to watch it again, but I didn’t get that Daniel was the intended target of the bomb. I got that it was all a publicity stunt so Conrad could be seen as a hero in his bid to become Governor.

Thanks so much for reading! I agree, Conrad was definitely in it for publicity. He strategically had campaign HQ close to Grayson Global so he would be close when the bomb went off. However, my take was that earlier in the episode he makes it clear that Daniel should send all the employees home — and then join them. Since Daniel actually listened to his dad (for once) he wasn’t there when the bomb went off. So, it’s true he may not have been the sole target, but without Conrad’s warning, him and his employees would have definitely still been in the building!
Curious to hear your take on it after you re-watch. Be sure to come back and share!
