revengeengagement

Last night’s episode of Revenge was called “Engagement” and it focused on the fact that history was repeating itself in more ways than one. So let’s dig in.

The episode started with Emily revealing the future of her and Daniel: the ring is back on her finger and they will be making their way back to the altar. After breaking the news to a somewhat thrilled Conrad, and a severely displeased Victoria, Emily gave us all a major detail about their rekindled romance: they would be heading to Paris. And then they will live there forever. Apparently, Emily is taking her revenge plans global.

Later that night, in typical Grayson fashion, Emily and Daniel had their engagement party part II. After a speech that was laced with some B.S., Victoria welcomed Emily back into the family and then asked if the two could chat. She basically said what we all know: she still doesn’t approve of their relationship. Then, instead of being insulted, Emily decided to dish it right back. She hit Victoria where it hurt. She brought up David Clarke. She mentioned how hard it must be to be in his house and then sitting on the swing he had worked so hard to build. It was clear Victoria was getting a little emotional about it, so Emily gave her a moment to recover. It looked like she needed it. That round goes to Ms. Emily Thorne.

One guest who was obviously not in attendance was Aiden. The engagement party of your fake fiance, is not really the place for your fake ex to be. But it turned out that Aiden is also out of a job. Takeda released Aiden’s records to Daniel which told him the role his father had played in the takedown of that infamous flight. Naturally, Daniel pulled a Donald Trump and hit Aiden with a “you’re fired.” Realizing that it was Takeda who betrayed him, he made his way over to NolCorp which was officially back in Nolan’s hands. Nolan thought Aiden needed a job. His offer? He could be the bodyguard to his Whitney. How sweet. But that wasn’t why he was there. He wanted to drain the funds in the ACF before the Graysons removed him as treasurer. The problem? They didn’t know how to access the account. Luckily for them however, Nolan knew someone who could help.

Cut to Nolan paying a visit to Edith a.k.a. the Falcon. She gave him two pieces of information. One, being that years ago Victoria had paid her son 5 million dollars to disappear. So her son is either blissfully well-off, or harboring some resentment of his own. Time will tell which is which. The second piece of information was a riddle that Nolan would have to solve to gain access to the ACF account. Edith said she tweaked his coding so that a certain key stroke would gain access, so off Nolan went with his clues to try and solve the riddle.

Back at the party, Daniel had to make a quick exit to pick up his hot mess of a sister from jail. Declan had showed up to try and be her knight in shining armor, but just ended up watching her get put in a cop car. Why? Well, Charlotte and her new BFF Regina were leaving a club when she puked in front of a cop. In fairness, he was on a bit of a power trip and knowing that she was a Grayson didn’t help, but she was swore she wasn’t drunk. History was not on her side considering her former drug problems, and Regina delivering a suspicious package earlier in the episode didn’t really help things. She may not have been drunk, but she revealed that she was in fact pregnant. So, history may not be on her side, but history IS repeating. Will Charlotte give up her child a la a young Victoria, or will she keep it? We’ll have to wait to find out.

One thing we did find out thanks to Jack and Ashley’s scheming: Conrad isn’t having an affair, but the mayor’s wife is helping sabotage her husband’s campaign. Victoria was the one who discovered this thanks to a little nudge from Jack. In return, she gave Jack some information of her own: his kiss with Emily was the reason that Emily and Daniel’s first engagement was called off. This was information that was not only confirmed by Ashley, but she also told him she was the one who told Daniel about it. Anyone else find it weird that Jack didn’t seem that upset? He was however, still upset with Emily. He didn’t know A) why she didn’t tell him how she felt and B) how she could be marrying into the Graysons knowing everything they are. She told him that she had wanted to tell him how she felt, but then Amanda showed up pregnant. Fair point. As for why she’s marrying into the Graysons, she said one day she’ll be able to tell him. He said he was over her half-truths, and to be honest, I can’t blame him. I will say it was nice to see her finally own up to the fact that there was something there between them. A part of me will always be Team Jack.

But Emily is still Team Aiden. Or at least for the time being. You see, Nolan was able to crack Ediths riddle and gain access to the ACF account. Part of me wasn’t sure why this would be a good idea. It would be super obvious that Aiden would be the one who drained it, right? But Aiden isn’t thinking straight. He knows that getting revenge doesn’t always mean getting clarity. Killing Trask and avenging his sister’s death is proof of that. So, after a duel with Takeda that looked like a scene out of Star Wars (just substitute  swords instead of light sabers) Aiden literally stabbed Takeda just like Takeda metaphorically stabbed him. Now with Takeda out of the picture, Aiden is set to transfer the funds when Emily runs into the Nolan’s office. She’s pissed that this is all going down behind her back, but even moreso when she realizes what Aiden is about to do. They’re not ready yet. It’s too soon, but Aiden thinks otherwise, clicks enter, and the money is transferred. Emily points out the obvious that he used his Grayson Global ID information to log in. The Graysons will know it was him who bankrupted them, but this will probably be one of the lesser things to worry about. Whatever tweaking Edith did to Nolan’s program, was really some sort of activation code and Carrion is now in full effect. Cut to a world full of darkness and Emily leaving us with this warning: It’s started.

Some leftovers: Were you shocked that Charlotte is pregnant? How do you think Emily will react to Aiden killing Takeda? Do you  think Emily and Daniel will actually move to France?
