Last night’s New Girl reminded us that even though they are all adults, the gang in the apartment are really a bunch of kids at heart. From jealousy over trivia, to one extremely low credit score it appears they all have some growing up to do. So lets dig in!

The episode started with Nick needing a new phone and when he and Jess arrived at the store they brought some serious entertainment to the employees. Why was that? Because Nick has an impressively low credit score..making it relatively impossible for him to purchase a phone. Luckily for him, Jess thinks this could be ‘his thing’ he can be the guy with no phone, like ghost protocol. Except, not really at all.

This causes Nick to start venting about rich people and how they’re ruining everything. Schmidt obviously takes a different approach to the whole money thing because, well, he has it. The debate over financial status is only furthered thanks to Jess having a meeting with a student’s father who happens to be extremely wealthy. And it’s safe to say that encounter didn’t go to well.

Russell Sheller, her student’s parent, where the conversation goes from the troubles of putting condoms on cucumbers (I guess bananas are so 2011?) to Russell telling Jess he doesn’t want his daughter participating in her ‘dream sess’. I kind of have to agree with him since his daughter made a creepy doll head painting, but that’s besides the point. Jess ends up being rude and is told to apologize since he’s the 3rd biggest donor to the school. So, Jess needs to do some groveling, something Jess is not fond of at all.

The guys all give her different advice. Schmidt tells her to tell Russell she had her period, an excuse he’s used before. Nick is completely against giving in to those with power and Winston thinks she should apologize like a human. She ends up siding with Nick and while on her way to Russell’s office to tell him she’s not not sorry her car breaks down. Who comes to her rescue? Russell, his money, and some genuine sincerity. He calls a tow truck, gives her his car to drive home, and invites her to a cook out. Well, isn’t he just Mr. Fancyman.

Before heading to the cookout Jess confides in CeCe about how she doesn’t like Russell. CeCe finds this ironic since he clearly likes her. She also points out that part of why Jess hates him so much is because he would be able to take care of her, something she’ s not used to. And they say models aren’t smart.

Jess ends up bringing Nick to the party, but quickly loses him to the dark side. He gets a little overcome with the lifestyle. Seriously, when he put his hand on Russell’s desk, he felt sexually proficient for the first time in his life. It was that big of a deal. When she finally finds Russell he tells her that he knows she thinks he’s a snob, but that he’s kind of lost with the whole parenting thing.

When Russell returns inside he finds Nick reading a novel, sitting in his chair, newsboy cap and sweater on and all. Russell tells Nick that not so long ago he was in the same position as Nick, but then he grew up. Great advice. He also gives Nick a cell phone that just happens to be laying around. Must be nice to be rich, right? Nick asks why he’s being so nice to him and he tells him because he’s Jess’ friend. As this is happening, Jess finds herself in a battle with a bidet and yet again Russell comes to her rescue. Only this time, she’s had enough and tries to leave with Nick because clearly they don’t belong. But, because Nick is such a good guy, and the writers just like to play with our emotions and not let him and Jess get together yet, he stops Jess from leaving and tells her to take a chance on Russell. Which is convenient since Russell asks her out. What’s not so convenient, Jess falling into his Koi pond.

While all this is going down at the party, Schmidt and Winston are battling it out over trivia. Only it’s not really so much of a battle because Schmidt is clearly smarter. Embarrassed in front of the girl he likes Winston,  makes the kid he babysits help him with some facts, but ends up just spewing useless information. In the end, she tells Winston that she wants him and not someone like Schmidt aka smart, rich, and with a car, and they officially start dating. Yay. Of course, Schmidt is yelling absurd things from the car such as the fact that his grandma would love this moment, but wouldn’t invite them up to her apartment because she’s a horrible racist. Way to set the mood Schmidt. We can always count on you for that. Though he did offer to play them some music. So, I guess all wasn’t lost.

Do you guys like Jess and Russell together? Or are you still team Nick?
