revenge plea photo

With only one episode of the series, #Revenge looked to start tying up loose ends with its penultimate episode. Did it succeed? Let’s dig in.

The episode started with Amanda sitting with her lawyer who is laying down the evidence to her case. He encourages her to take a plea and she says absolutely not—she’s not going down for something that she didn’t do. At the hearing, her bail is set for 2 million dollars (#PotcketChange), but there’s a catch: she’s gonna be on house arrest. The even bigger catch? Ben volunteered to be the one to set her up. He says he only did it because he knows how she operates, and it was a smart move on his part because Amanda is looking to escape.

You see, Nolan was able to track down Mason Treadwell and even though both Jack and David offer to go track him down, Amanda doesn’t want to drag them any further into this. So,  Nolan creates a new ankle monitor and she slaps the old one on David and runs out the house. Why there is no detective in a squad car sitting outside her house watching is beyond me. Unfortunately for Amanda there was one part of her plan she didn’t foresee. Ben has to come check on the alarm at 9 PM every night to reest it (that’s a new rule!) so when the alarm goes off and Ben hears it beeping from David’s wrist, he knows something is up.

As Amanda is trying to prove that Victoria framed her, Vic’s trusty sidekicks are getting ready to plan her memorial service, well more Louise than Margot. Louse is not taking the death well, but Margot seems to be really cool, calm, and collected about it, which is weird considering how close the two were. It makes you wonder what Margot isn’t telling us. While Margot goes about her business, Louise wants to gain access to Victoria’s penthouse to properly grieve (she feels better when she feels close the Victoria). The only problem? The executor of Victoria’s estate closed off the apartment, which means it’s time for the (brief) return of Charlotte. Remember her?! We catch up with her at her rehab center and she basically tells Louise she can have access to the penthouse if she just leaves her alone. Louise can’t figure out why she’s not more broken up and Charlotte puts it pretty bluntly: she already grieved for her mother… when she died and disappeared… the first time. As if this didn’t set the wheels of doubt in Louise’s head in motion enough, a surprise visit from Nolan in Victoria’s penthouse definitely does. Then add on the black hoodie she finds hidden in a garment bag, and Louise is seeing this prettyyyy differently.

Back over at the beach house, David and Jack are looking for ways to prove that Amanda was framed. Jack, who at the beginning of the episode made it clear he was only staying to help David with his chemo, is now officially staying for Amanda. Why? She FINALLY said how she feels about Jack TO Jack. Yay! This revelation makes him even more determined to clear Amanda’s name. His first stop, trying to gauge Margot’s reaction to him saying Victoria set Amanda up. Her speedy exit pretty much confirms his suspicions, but it’s the license plate on her town car that really gets his attention: it’s the same one in the photo Nolan found of a car dropping off Treadwell at the trailer park

So back over to Amanda. She’s standing in the trailer park and after not finding any evidence in Mason’s trailer, decides to chat up his neighbors. They tell her that they haven’t seen the gentleman who lives there in a few days… not since he left with a lady friend. When Amanda asks them to describe the woman, she just so happens to fit Victoria’s description. But before she can ask anymore information the sirens sound and Amanda is brought back to jail.

In the jail she gets a few visitors. David comes to visit and after looking really pale, collapses off the chair and is rushed to the hospital. We later learn that the cancer spread to his brain and the doctors are giving him just six months to live. After all this is David not even going to make it to through the series finale?! Amanda, understandably is crushed, but she makes him promise that they will do what they can to fight this. Her second visitor is from Margot, although this is not your standard visitation After Jack and Nolan enlist one of Jack’s former cop buddies, they’re able to frame Margot for stealing a piece of jewelry, and somehow she ends up in the jail cell next to Amanda. Because it’s Amanda, she somehow is able to get a hold of the guard’s keys and locks herself into the cell with Margot to showoff some of her scare tactics she learned the first time around to get some answers. Apparently, lady has still got it because it works.

The last visitor Amanda gets is Ben. She’s called him because she finally knows how Victoria was able to frame her. She found an unclaimed body (a woman named Mary Gaines) and was able to switch her information so that a corpse was found and dug up in the ruins of Grayson Manor. She forged a suicide note, but made sure to change her handwriting ever so slightly so it wasn’t a perfect match. She found a woman with blonde hair to wear a hoodie and act like she mugged her in broad daylight. Who else do we know with blonde hair? Yup. Margot. Basically, the list goes on and on. When Amanda is done telling the story, she realizes Ben doesn’t believe her, and Ben basically tells her she’s right. It’s not until he’s sitting at his desk and Louise shows up with the black hoodie she found earlier that he decides, maybe Amanda is telling the truth after all.

The episode ends with Louise sharing her doubts about Victoria to Margot and letting her know she confided in Ben about it. Right after she leaves Margot makes a call requesting someone’s services immediately—which you know is never good. As this is going down, Ben is taking a trip out to Jersey. His first stop? The morgue. The coroner goes to show him the body of Mary Gaines and what do ya know? It’s not there. So off Ben goes to Mary’s home. He enters the house and as he’s snooping around hears the shower turn off and out walks Victoria Grayson looking clean, but also very, very alive. But right after that Ben ends up (presumably) very, very, dead because creepy Courtney Love returned (aka the hit-woman) who stabs him in the back, frightening even Victoria with her actions.

Some leftovers: What do you think is going to happen to Louise? Do you think David is going to make it through the finale? Were you shocked Victoria ended up being alive? Can you believe there’s just one episode left?
