This episode of Revenge appropriately titled ‘Legacy’ was all about the art of the flashback. We got to see Emily back in her Amanda days, and watch as she put the pieces together that set the spark to her vengeful plan in motion. So, lets dig in!

We forget due to the fact that Emily is so far gone with her plan, that there was a point in time where she believed her dad was a murderer. And it was up to Nolan to make her see he was innocent through his journals. Eventually, she returns to her old house in the Hamptons and begins reading all his journals, and it turns out, maybe Nolan was right.

So, since she’s back in town, she heads to the Stowaway where she sees Jack again for the first time. She learns from the bartender that there is a catering gig at the Grayson’s that she can’t make. Amanda graciously volunteers. What better way to find out the truth, then to be in the home of the people themselves? Luckily for her, the Grayson’s received a letter that can only be explained as a threat and decided to invite everyone involved in the David Clark scenario to their New Year’s Eve party. Perfect timing, right?

While there we get to see Victoria and Lydia when they were besties, and the beginning of Lydia and Conrad’s affair. We also get to meet many of the people involved in David Clarke’s death. People like Mason Treadwell, who we already knew, and good ‘ol Roger Halsted.

While setting up, Halsted approaches Amanda asking her to sit him somewhere away from ‘these people’ and heads to the boathouse. Frank recognizes his awkwardness making Halsted suspect number one. Amanda recognizes Halsted’s name and asks him for answers, telling him straight out that she’s Amanda Clarke. At first he refuses. Then, thanks to his conscious or liquid courage, he ‘drunkenly’ bumps into Amanda. What we think is just a result of liquor, was actually him slipping a note into Amanda pocket.

Due to his drunken antics, Frank escorts him back to the boathouse. He accuses him of writing the note, and when Amanda interrupts to give him some Advil, he tells her he has something that will make him sleep like a baby. That’s one way to put it considering when Amanda finds the note in her pocket and goes to talk to him, he’s lying in a pool of his own blood in the bath tub. The note basically confirmed what we all now know: her father was innocent.

Back in the party, Victoria is having her own flashbacks to when she first met David at an earlier NYE party and seemed like an actual nice human being. All of her trips down memory lane are interrupted when she learns some pieces of information. Conrad sold David’s house to Lydia. Frank murdered Halstead — and for basically no reason.

You see, Mason Treadwewll is a writer. How could we forget? He wrote the note as a way to try and get some intrigue back for a story. It would appear he got that and more.

Back at the Stowaway, Nolan realizes that he’s the reason the Porter family is living in the bar and tries to do the right thing by them. He offers to pull the plug on his housing deal, but Papa Porter tells him it would actually do more harm than good. So, he keeps quiet. We also learn that Nolan has been looking out for Jack and Declan A LOT longer than we thought.

The episode ends with Amanda calling Nolan telling him that the Grayson’s need to stopped. And as we know, she’s the one trying to make damn sure that happens.

Some leftovers: What’d you think of Treadwell’s manipulation? Did you sense a deeper bond between Nolan, Jack, and Declan? Did you like Victoria and David together?
