Last night’s episode of  Revenge was called ‘sacrifice’ and it seriously lived up to its name. With two characters getting killed off, and another’s life hanging in the balance, there is A LOT to talk about so let’s dig in!

The last we saw of our newlyweds was them sailing off into the sunset, and with Nate Ryan creepily lurking below. He made his presence known in a big way and told Jack that he will make sure he pays for whatever it is that he had on Conrad. Great move on Nate’s part aside from the fact that Jack had no idea about Amanda’s little chat regarding the blackmail. Once they’re all caught up, Amanda tells Jack that they have to kill him before he kills them. Really good logic, but If I were Jack I’d be a little concerned with how quickly her brain went there. Clearly, Emily is rubbing off on her.

Elsewhere, Emily got a visit from her ex- BFF Ashley. She’s there to do some good for a change and let it slip that Amanda brought over her laptop that contained some very important footage. Obviously, Emily is not okay with this and heads over to Amanda’s house to do some digging. Unfortunately, while she’s there Charlotte has her own laptop open and in the bottom of one of the pictures Emily sees that Nate Ryan is on the boat with them. How she saw that was beyond me, but she is a crazy super spy so she probably could. This of course means she needs Nolan’s help and the two somehow find a boat and are off to track down The Amanda — hopefully not before it’s too late.

They leave Padma in Aiden’s care to try and use the fact that she has an in with The Initiative to their favor. The first order of business is getting proof that her father is still alive, instead she gets his severed finger in a box. So, there’s that.

Back on the boat, Amanda and Jack are doing their best to try and get away from Nate. Amanda does a really good job, but her plea at gunpoint raises a question. She tells Nate that she was only back in the Hamptons to seek revenge on the Graysons for killing her father. Jack is just her cover. Nate seems to buy it, but the question was did Jack? It spared her her life, but Jack heard. Whether he believes it or not, remains to be seen, but the seed for potential doubt was definitely planted.

They fight as a distraction and are able to trick Nate into looking for the laptop down below. Rookie mistake, Mr. Ryan. This allows them to temporarily  lock him down below, but The Amanda apparently wasn’t crafted very well, and Nate is able to bust the door down. He also refers to Amanda as Mandy. Did they just become best friends? Yup! Then in an attempt to get passed a second set of doors he starts shooting his gun and just as Amanda and Jack are about to make it onto the inflatable life raft, a stray bullet hits Jack. Amanda loads him onto the raft, but instead of joining him, cuts the cord so he floats away. She tells him she’s doing it to save his life, but she just sent a bleeding man in a raft floating in the ocean alone.

Luckily for them, Emily and Nolan have an amazing cell phone carrier and they have internet in the middle of the ocean and are able to track The Amanda with their GPS. They are also able to get a live feed and know Jack is hurt. When they find him, Nolan is in charge of getting Jack to the hospital, but Emily won’t be joining them: she doesn’t want to leave Amanda.  So off she goes in her little raft and somehow is able to locate The Amanda right in the nick of time. We got to see Emily do some of her usual butt-kicking with Nate and in the midst of it all a shot gets fired that punctures a can of gasoline. Nate has Emily at gunpoint and is about to pull the trigger when Amanda comes to the rescue and shoots him.

With Nate wounded, they’re about to make their escape when Amanda notices her necklace on the deck of the boat. Call me crazy, but in a life or death situation I can’t say a necklace would be enough of a reason for me to risk my life. Turns out I was right because as she goes to get it, Nate flips open a lighter and sets the boat and himself on fire. If the Alicia Keys song ‘Girl on fire’ is now stuck in your head, you’re not alone.

Emily is the first to emerge from the water and she’s fine, but she can’t find Amanda. Eventually we see her doing her best Leonardo DiCaprio impression from Titanic floating on a random item. Emily is able to pull her onto the raft and it’s not looking good. Remember how Leo was all frosty in the water? Well, she is all burned. She tells Emily to take care of Jack and little Carl and we witness the biggest sacrifice of the series so far: the death of fake Amanda Clarke. The moment was really sad when you realized how much the two have endured both with and for each other. But I couldn’t help waiting for Emily to tell Amanda that she’d never let go.

This led to a bunch of huge moments. First things first, Emily VanCamp is a phenomenal crier. It was nice to see her get to show emotion for a change. Second, her alibi and ‘sister’ is now dead and floating somewhere in the water. And third, the Grayson’s no longer have a scapegoat. With the death of Helen Crowley last episode Victoria and Conrad, who officially announced his plan to run for governor, decided to do what they do best when faced with the murdering of other human beings: blame a Clarke. They planted evidence under Amanda’s bed and another member of The Initiative found it. Good idea, but if someone were to murder someone, do we really think they would just put the evidence under their bed? I’m gonna go with no, but either way this definitely puts a wrinkle in their plans.

The episode ends with Jack on an operating table, and we’re not sure what his fate will be. One thing is for sure: with Amanda Clarke no longer in the picture, things are going to get even crazier in the Hamptons.

Some leftovers: Were you shocked that Amanda was killed off? Do you think Jack is going to make it? What does not having Amanda do for the storyline? Are you as mad as me that it doesn’t come back till March 10?
